INTRODUCTION

Yonge Street's first floor shops are brightly lit and bustling, rented to all variety of shops. The sidewalks are packed and the roadway is congested. The eye and thus our attention are therefore rarely drawn above the bustle. Because of this, Yonge street upstairs lies largely unseen, forgotten, disused, abandoned and sacrificed, existing just above the gaze of the passerby, and so just outside our consciousness -- much like these crumbling and underappreciated structures of Toronto's past.

Joey's Apartment -- Yonge Street Upstairs is a short photo journal documenting the changing face of Yonge Street, and of Toronto more generally, capturing the contrast between the gleaming new condo developments erected by enormous crane installations and the historic and often dilapidated structures of Toronto's oldest and iconic street.
